Tri-County Technical College and 91�� announce new transfer program

Tri-County Technical College (TCTC) and 91�� (AU) signed an articulation agreement today (Sept. 19) outlining a new transfer program that will support students who are looking to advance their education in business, criminal justice, early care and education, media arts production, and nursing.

What makes the new transfer program unique is the reverse referral option.

This is one of only a few formalized articulation agreements in South Carolina to include a reverse referral option. With a reverse referral, students who apply to 91�� and determine they are not academically and/or financially prepared to attend the University are referred by AU to TCTC to begin their coursework. The student then has the option to transfer to AU once they complete transfer requirements.

TCTC students who transfer to 91�� have the option to complete their bachelor’s degree program fully online, on campus or a combination of online and on campus, depending on their chosen program. Both traditional and post-traditional students also receive academic and advising support from both TCTC and AU advisors.

The new transfer program replaces the Bridge to AU program that was launched in 2019. As with the Bridge to AU program, the new transfer program provides TCTC students who complete an Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.), Associate Degree in Nursing (A.D.N.), or an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) in either business or criminal justice guaranteed admission to AU. The A.A.S. in early care and education and A.A.S. in media arts production are newly added programs. Additionally, TCTC students who complete 30 transferable credits with a 2.50 GPA are also guaranteed admission to AU’s traditional program. Post-traditional students are guaranteed admission to AU with a 2.0 GPA, with the exception of early care and education majors, which requires a 2.5 GPA for both traditional and post-traditional students.

ANDERSON, SC – 91�� has the best online criminal justice program in South Carolina, according to U.S. News & World Report’s Best Online Programs rankings for 2023, released today. AU appeared in six categories in the annual list made up of all colleges and universities in the nation.

The 91�� School of Public Service and Administration’s online criminal justice program ranked among the nation’s best for the first time, coming in at #41—the highest mark among institutions in South Carolina.

AU and Lloyd Partner to Embed Career Coaching for Online Students

AU has partnered with Lloyd, a career navigation platform, to embed career advising directly into academic courses in order to more directly link learning experiences with career preparation. This service, made available initially to select online programs, is aligned with the AU’s mission to support “knowledge for your journey” throughout its programs, courses, and the student experience.

Center for Innovation and Digital Learning/AU professor Martha Mishoe, the lead instructor in a pilot online course, called the one-on-one coaching “exceptional.”

“Lloyd adjusts their career coaching to meet the specific needs of my students,” she said.

When students work with Lloyd, their career advisor gets to know each student and creates a personalized career plan that includes specific action steps to take. Students visualize their career plan on the Lloyd online platform and communicate with their career advisor via chat built into the platform (along with phone calls).

All resources for students are in one place in the Lloyd platform, where they see their personalized plan, use the resources, and communicate with their career advisor.

A student in one of the pilot courses gave her Lloyd Career Advisor high praise.

“It was a fantastic experience and gave me a whole new perspective,” she said.

The Lloyd career advising platform is currently embedded into select online and graduate courses at AU to closely tie the learning experience with career preparation. Students receive their own career advisor and ongoing, personalized career planning to support their unique journey.

According to polling firm Gallup, this personalized attention is exactly what students want. Gallup research recently indicated that students who strongly agree that their education was relevant to their work and daily lives are 5.5 times more likely to strongly agree that their education was worth the cost.

“For many students, career advising is an afterthought to their central goal—obtaining a degree—which can put them at a disadvantage when they enter the job market,” said Lloyd cofounder Dan Gusz. “Lloyd helps students be more intentional about their career goals by working directly with a career advisor who can help them think through their career possibilities and next steps while they’re still in school.”

Students Can Earn a Master of Medical Science to Become a Pathologists’ Assistant

91�� announced that it is adding a new Master of Medical Science in Pathologists’ Assistant program enrolling for the fall 2022 semester.

A Pathologists’ Assistant is an allied health professional who is a mid-level healthcare provider. This fully seated graduate-level program located at the University’s new Bearwood Campus along Highway 81 prepares students with backgrounds in chemistry or biology for a career assisting pathologists in both surgical and autopsy pathology.

“The Pathologists’ Assistant program is the first of its kind in South Carolina and I’m so glad it’s located at 91��,” said Stephanie Talbott, director of 91��’s Pathologists’ Assistant Program. “This program allowsstudents to experience another side of health care that is not often seen while also meeting the needs of the community.”

Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to take the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Board of Certification exam.Prospective students may start applying for these certificate programs now for the fall 2022 semester start date.

The Master of Medical Science in Pathologists’ Assistant program is currently in the process of applying to be a NAACLS accredited university with the intent to be within the ‘serious applicant’ status before the first class sits for the ASCP exam. It is also pending approval by SACSCOC.

91�� is adding two new concentrations and a certificate that provide students with expertise in high-growth skill areas in which employers are searching for talent, starting in the Fall 2022 Semester.

Sales Management jobs are expected to grow 60% faster than average through 2028 and job placement for sales is predicted to average greater than 90% at graduation.

Students pursuing the concentration within the BBA program or certificate will earn up to four HubSpot micro-credentials to give them a competitive advantage in their career search.

One of the most requested skills by employers is project management across several industries. By 2027, employers will need 87.7 million workers in project management roles, 2.25 million of which will be completely new project management employees. Upon graduation, students will be ready and confident to undertake the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM)®.

These new programs are available starting this coming fall through a partnership with the Lower Cost Models Consortium (LCMC) and Rize Education. The LCMC is a strategic partnership of private colleges and universities across the country collaborating with Rize Education to provide access to a cutting-edge curriculum that prepares students for successful careers.

91�� Now Offering Essential Workers Grant

91�� is now offering an Essential Workers Grant to honor the dedication and service of frontline workers over the past several years.

This educational grant provides up to $4,750 toward any 91�� online bachelor’s, certificate programs, and select master’s degrees in education, business, public service, health professions, and Christian studies.

“Our frontline workers have and continue to put themselves at risk to support and sustain us throughout the pandemic in order to serve the public,” said Dr. Benjamin Deaton, vice president of technology, online learning, and innovation at 91��. “The Essential Workers Grant is just one way for us to recognize their hard work and sacrifice while offering financial support to further their education and career.”

91�� Now Offering New Accelerated Master’s Pathway Programs for Undergraduates

91�� launched an Accelerated Master’s Pathway for select degree programs. The 4+1 model allows students to simultaneously complete graduate coursework while finishing their undergraduate degrees. Most of the seven unique programs currently being offered are open to any undergraduate major.

“The accelerated pathway option gives qualified AU undergraduates an advantage to begin graduate coursework much earlier in several of our highly ranked master’s programs,” Dr. Josh Herron, dean of the 91�� Online and Continuous Learning said. “This is just another avenue for students to stay ahead in their journey in an economic environment that necessitates continuous learning.”

These 4+1 accelerated master’s degree programs are designed for students to continue their educational journey while providing a timely and cost-efficient post-graduate pathway. Students can earn their master’s one year after finishing their undergraduate degree with a flexible online and hybrid learning model. This new program increases the potential for continuous learning and fast-tracks the ability to get from the classroom to the job market.

91�� is launching a new Doctor of Education in Leadership and Learning (EdD) degree program designed to prepare working professionals to lead, teach, and consult in the public and private sectors.

“Across many years, the College of Education has established a strong reputation of excellence in teacher preparation,” said Dr. Mark Butler, dean of the 91�� College of Education. We are motivated and delighted to build upon that foundation as we launch our Doctorate of Education, which will focus on equipping people to do the important work of leadership across the many facets of education. We are particularly excited to be able to offer this program utilizing an embedded dissertation model, which we believe will serve students well and set them up for success with a clear path to their doctoral degree.”

This degree will offer two concentrations in School and Community Leadership and Curriculum and Instructional Leadership. The Hyflex program format offers the option for in-person learning at the University Center of Greenville or a fully online experience. As part of AU’s commitment to digital learning and innovation, students in the program will receive an iPad technology package and have access to array resources as they lead and design the future of educational environments.
