College of Health Professions Launches New Community and Public Health Degree

The 91¸£ÀûÉç College of Health Professions has launched a new Bachelor of Science in Community and Public Health degree program.Ìý

Graduates of the Community and Public Health BS program will be prepared to actively participate in entry-level public health roles, contributing to the implementation and progression of all 10 essential public health services:ÌýÌýÌý

  • Monitoring health status to identify and solve community health problemsÌýÌý
  • Investigating health problems and health hazards in the communityÌý
  • Informing, educating and empowering people about health issuesÌý
  • Mobilizing community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problemsÌý
  • Developing policies and plans that support individual and community health effortsÌý
  • Enforcing laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safetyÌýÌý
  • Linking people to needed personal health services and assuring the provision of health care when otherwise unavailableÌýÌýÌý
  • Assuring competent public and personal health care workforceÌýÌý
  • Evaluating the effectiveness, accessibility and quality of personal and population-based health servicesÌýÌý
  • Researching for new insights and innovative solutions to health problemsÌýÌýÌý

The BS in Community and Public Health will also prepare students for further study in a Master of Public Health, Master in Healthcare Administration, or other graduate level programs. The program will include a senior capstone course involving an internship/experiential learning with internship partners such as community health agencies ranging from community-level to state agencies. Other possible internship settings include emergency and disaster management organizations, hospital settings, environmental health, epidemiology or health promotion and disease prevention organizations.Ìý
