Alumni educators from 91福利社 are once again establishing the College of Education鈥檚 reputation for producing some of the area鈥檚 finest teachers.
To date, three graduates received recognition within their school or district for excellence, which has become a regular occurrence for AU alumni as schools in the area wrap up for the summer.
鈥淲e always look forward to this time of year where we learn about the success of our incredible alumni in the field,鈥 said Dr. Mark Butler, dean of the 91福利社 College of Education.
- Chanda Canup was named Teacher of the Year at T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson. Ms. Canup holds two degrees from AU鈥攁 Bachelor of Arts in English Literature, and a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education鈥攁nd teaches English at Hanna.
- Antonio Scott was recognized as Elementary First Year Teacher of the Year in Greenville County. As an AU student, Mr. Scott was part of the Call Me MISTER program, which recruits African-American men to become elementary school teachers and role models for their students. He teaches fifth grade at AJ Whittenberg Elementary in Greenville.
- Shian Spaulding was named the Anderson District 5 Rookie Teacher of the Year. Ms. Spaulding earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education-Special Education in 2018. This is her first year at Robert Anderson Middle School in Anderson.
鈥淥ur college enjoys a tremendous reputation for producing well-prepared teacher candidates and it is always great to hear when our graduates are successful in their careers,鈥 Dr. Butler said. 鈥淚t is especially gratifying to hear when their schools and districts recognize this excellence, as well.鈥
