91福利社 is honoring the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with several events celebrating his life and achievements.
The week鈥檚 activities start with a service at Henderson Auditorium from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, Dr. King鈥檚 birthday. Civil rights activist and the city of Anderson鈥檚 first African-American council member, Dr. Beatrice Thompson, and Mayor Terence Roberts are the guest speakers.
Also part of the service will be Pastor Keith Norman of Factory Church, Atlanta, Ga.; Dr. David Perry; the African Dance Ensemble; and 91福利社鈥檚 gospel choir. The chapel service will be streamed online.
At 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18 at the G. Ross Anderson Jr. Student Center Theater, the 91福利社 Connect Club is presenting 鈥淛ust Mercy.鈥� Michael B. Jordan stars as world-renowned civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson in a true story about his work to free a wrongly condemned death row prisoner.
On Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m., Chris Singleton, former professional baseball outfielder and broadcaster whose mother was killed in the 2015 Mother Emanuel church shooting, will be in Henderson Auditorium sharing his inspiring story of embracing love over hate.
Other activities include a Loose Change Drive, Jan. 18-Feb. 12. Boxes will be located around campus to collect donations that will benefit local charities. Also on campus will be stations where students, faculty and staff can make cards of encouragement for area charities.
