We started planning out photography for the magazine at the two month mile marker of me working at the university. The process of curating the photos to support the stories in this magazine was a 鈥渇irehose鈥� experience of 91福利社.

Every photoshoot introduced me to a new dimension of this institution. My job initially consisted of taking goofy candids at the Silent Disco event and idealistic pictures of students studying in books and beans. The magazine required me going to historically preserved slave quarters to photograph a Civil Rights activist professor and hearing a black pastor who earned his doctorate from AU in December talk about the atrocities of slavery in the south. This example, and the other stories in the magazine, showcased so many humble and devoted individuals striving for excellence at Anderson. I would plan for a shoot with specific direction in mind, but all of it would change when I met the subject of the story in person. Their goals, personality, and commitment to the University impacted the perspective and composition of the photos.

It has been a real joy to work alongside Grayson Miller鈥檚 out-of-the-box narrative design for the magazine and Andrew Beckner鈥檚 dedication to quality storytelling. It鈥檚 always a blessing to work on a project that is creatively satisfying like the AU Magazine and it makes me grateful to be a part of such a dedicated team.
